Dewey Chapter 1

What are 3 most important ideas/concepts that you took from this chapter and why?

1. One of the most important ideas and or concepts that I took from this chapter is: The distinction between living things and inanimate things, and how the older(former) maintain themselves by renewal. I think the most interesting part is that when something is lost or shattered no matter what the object or person or thing still tries to harness its energy to further its existence.

2. Another important idea is how teaching and learning is a necessity to continue the existence of a society. As we talked in class technology is always evolving. As educators we need to be aware of this new technology in order to ensure that students learn about this and essentially acquire the 21st century skills needed to be successful in the real world.

3. The last thing I found important was how communication is a process of sharing experiences till it becomes a common practice. This was interesting because I think about how experiences were shared when there was nothing to write on. Experiences were passed on by verbal retelling, and then were later written and able to spread easier.
